SKANDERBEG
Gjergj Kastrioti, also known as Skanderbeg, was born on May 6, 1405, in Albania.
Skanderbeg rose from humble beginnings to become a revered Albanian military leader in the 15th century. For over 25 years, he fiercely resisted the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Albania and the Balkans. Skanderbeg's strategic brilliance and unwavering dedication to his homeland made him a symbol of Albanian resistance and national pride.
During his military campaigns, Skanderbeg faced numerous Ottoman adversaries, including Sultan Murad II and his son, Mehmed the Conqueror. Despite being vastly outnumbered, Skanderbeg achieved remarkable victories, winning over 25 major battles against the Ottoman forces. Leading an army of approximately 10,000 soldiers, he successfully defended Albania against Ottoman armies that sometimes numbered in the tens of thousands.
Revered as a national hero, Skanderbeg was not only a guardian of Albania but also of the entire Balkan region, defending it from the encroaching Ottoman Empire. His legacy serves as a source of inspiration for military forces worldwide, embodying the spirit of courage and determination in the face of adversity.
